Patient Access to Personal Health Information: An Analysis of the Consumer’s Perspective
The purpose of this exploratory study was to analyze the perceptions of healthcare consumers in accessing their health information via provider portals, when using personal health records, and through the release of information process. Availability of electronic health records and consumers’ electronic access to their health information has changed dramatically since the enactment of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act in 2009.
