The purpose of this study was to examine first-year students’ experiences in a new Master of Health Information Management (MHIM) program. The first year in a college program is challenging for students. Specifically, first-year students’ attrition from MHIM programs is an area of growing concern because the demand for health information management (HIM) professionals with advanced degrees is growing faster than the supply of graduates.
As the health information management (HIM) profession continues to expand and become more specialized, there is an ever-increasing need to identify emerging HIM workforce roles that require a codified level of proficiency and professional standards. The Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management (CCHIIM) explored one such role—clinical documentation improvement (CDI) practitioner—to define the tasks and responsibilities of the job as well as the knowledge required to perform them effectively.
Long-term care (LTC) is an important sector in the healthcare industry; however, the adoption of electronic health record (EHR) systems in LTC facilities lags behind that in other sectors of healthcare. This study examines the adoption and utilization of EHRs in LTC facilities in Texas and identifies the barriers preventing implementation of EHRs.
