Our goal is to make available the highest quality of research in the field of health information management and to serve as a respected source of information.
In the first issue under this new format, the focus will be on the changing body of knowledge in HIM. Elizabeth Layman, PhD, RHIA, CCS, FAHIMA, professor and chair of the School of Allied Health Sciences at East Carolina University, is our guest editor. Articles in this issue run the gamut from “Redefining the Health Information Management Scholar Role” by Brodnik and Houser to “The Role of Health Information Professionals in Quality Management” by Spath to “Redefining HIM leadership: Towards an HIM Leadership Framework” by Thierry-Sheridan and Blanding-Smith to “Consumer Health Informatics: Is There a Role for HIM Professionals?” by Dolan, et al. This is an exciting time to be in the field of HIM and we hope Perspectives in Health Information Management will change and expand to meet the needs of our profession.
